According to reports, a 70-year-old man died in New Jersey, and a 19-year-old man was found dead in Maryland. The New York City authorities reported that at least seven deaths-including a 2-year-old were related to flooding. The death and destruction occurred three days after Ida hit the Gulf Coast with a hurricane of more than 170 miles per hour on Sunday. 


Those killed in the floods in New York City included a 2-year-old boy, a 48-year-old woman, and a 50-year-old man, all of whom were found in a house near Jamaica in Queens.


 According to the New York Times, two other victims also died in Queens. According to New York City WCBS-TV, a 48-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man were killed in Brooklyn. 


The governors of New York and New Jersey are struggling to deal with heavy rain, wind and flooding, and declare a state of emergency.


In New York City, Wednesday's storm nearly shut down the subway system, prompting Mayor Bill de Blasio to declare a state of emergency through the night.
