Justin Gaethje is the new UFC interim Lightweight Champion. He beat Tony Ferguson to a pulp on Saturday in the main event of UFC 249 in Jacksonville, Florida. In a fan-less VyStar Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Gaethje proved to be a man fit to be called a champion.

Almost without pause, Gaethje landed vicious lefts and rights on Ferguson’s face until the fifth round when referee Herb Dean had no other choice than to stop the one-sided beating.

Ferguson showed exemplary toughness eating unimaginable shots the entire fight, but he was repeatedly beaten to the punch. The lacerations and swelling on his face grew over the course of the four-plus rounds.
