Unconfirmed rumours of Kim Jong-un’s declining health status immediately triggered speculation on Tuesday about who could succeed him at the helm of the most secretive regime in the world.
It remains unknown whether the North Korean leader, who is believed to be only 36, has officially designated a successor, or whether the reclusive country would be temporarily ruled by an elite group of elders and figureheads.
However, several known figures would be expected to play an influential role.
